Where substance abuse ends, the path to healing begins.

The abuse of alcohol, prescription medications and illegal drugs remains at epidemic proportions, annually affecting an estimated 22.2 million Americans ages 12 and older, as well as their families and communities. Rome Memorial Hospital's Community Recovery Center provides comprehensive support for individuals who want to regain control over their lives.

In-depth assessment of each individual's unique situation allows for a treatment approach that is personalized and comprehensive. The program's goal is to help patients achieve and maintain abstinence, reclaim a sense of self worth, and learn to manage the stresses of an active life without returning to substance dependence.

    Professional, confidential outpatient counseling

Serving adolescents and adults, the Community Recovery Center offers several levels of care to meet each individual's needs and treatment. These encompass individual and group counseling sessions and education programs. Success is measured by attendance, participation and attainment of the goals defined in the client’s individual treatment plan. Participation in appropriate self-help programs is encouraged.

Intensive treatment includes relapse prevention, working with the 12-step recovery process and education on alcoholism and drug addiction. Clients who have successfully undergone intensive treatment, often find participation in the Center’s aftercare program helpful.

Clients’ families are encouraged to participate in treatment. The program includes individual and group counseling, as well as helping with co-dependency issues, boundaries, relationships and communication skills.

Certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, the Community Recovery Center coordinates and works with many specialty courts in Oneida County.

    Special programs for special needs

Specialized programs have been developed by the Community Recovery Center to meet very specific needs of some segments of the community. These include:

    • Impaired Professionals Program, for licensed professionals with substance abuse problems.
    • Dual Focus Program, for those who experience both psychiatric disorders and chemical dependency.
    • Programs designed specifically for men or for women.
    • Adolescent services.

In addition to counseling, the Community Recovery Center also offers patients a comprehensive medical health assessment. Patients are evaluated and, if necessary, connected with a primary care physician.
